Harlie Barkley singled home Madison Daniel with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Wilson a 4-3 victory over Deshler on Thursday in the Class 4A, Area 16 softball tournament at Central.
Daniel started the seventh with a single and was sacrificed to second by Carley Hall. Barkley then drove home Daniel with the winning run.
Wilson took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kendra Smith had a run-scoring double and Mackenzie Daniel drove in another run with a triple.
Deshler scored one run in the sixth when Mackenzie Roberts doubled and scored on a single by Lauren Cantrell. The Tigers tied it in the top of the seventh on Kat Darnell’s two-run homer.
Brianna Terrell went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out three to earn the win.
Hannah Williams had two hits for Deshler.
n Central 5, Brooks 3: Kate Lambert had two doubles and three RBIs to spark Central past Brooks in the first round of the Area 16 tournament.
Meg Williams added two hits and one RBI for the Wildcats (27-16). Abbie Chandler also had two hits for Central and Bailey Nelson added a double.
Hannah Southern led Brooks with two hits and one RBI and Kimberly Crowson had a double.
Halie Liles was the winning pitcher for Central.
n Deshler 12, Brooks 0: The Tigers stayed alive behind an offensive performance that included three players with three hits and two more with two hits.
Winning pitcher Anna Wilbanks drove in three runs with three hits, including a double, while Kat Darnell had two doubles and a single. Nicholette Smith added three singles, with Lauren Cantrell and Christian Darnell chipping in two hits and one RBI apiece.
Class 5A, Area 16
n Athens 7, Muscle Shoals 3: Whitney Jordan went 3 for 3 with a two-run homer to power Athens past Muscle Shoals in a first-round game in Moulton.
Krymson Lashley pitched four innings and took the loss for the Trojans.
n Muscle Shoals 12, Russellville 11: Muscle Shoals scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally past Russellville.
AnnaBeth Alexander singled home two runs to tie the score at 11 in the eighth. Madison Tidwell then followed with a single to score the winning run.
Alexander finished with three hits and four RBIs to lead Muscle Shoals. Tidwell finished with three hits and two RBIs.
Casey Bolton and Ally Willis had three hits each for Russellville, while Mali Parrish and Abby Bendall had two hits each.
Bailey Mellott picked up the win in relief for Muscle Shoals.
The loss eliminated Russellville, which lost 10-0 to Lawrence County earlier in the day.
Muscle Shoals (24-15) will play an elimination game today at 3 p.m.
